Can I Train A Cat To Sit In A Bicycle Basket?

I have Buy Generic Drugs a cat (I think he's half American Shorthair, half Maine Coon) who gets pretty upset when I go to work. I could take him with me, but I don't have a car. Would it be possible to get him used to riding in a basket with me (the bottom would be lined with something, of course) or would that be the kind of thing you'd have to start working on as a kitten?
